DETROIT - Today, the Hollier for Congress campaign announced that Patrick J. Kennedy, 8-time Congressman, founder of The Kennedy Forum and best-selling author, has endorsed Adam Hollier for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District.
Kennedy is a fierce advocate for mental health parity, and worked tirelessly in Congress for resources for mental health support across the United States. He is the founder of The Kennedy Forum, Don’t Deny Me, and the co-founder of One Mind, a national coalition seeking new treatments and cures for brain diseases.
He continues the legacy of his uncle President John F. Kennedy, a decorated World War II vet, and his father Senator Ted Kennedy, in prioritizing veterans issues. Through his nonprofit advocacy work, he has been able to support our veterans through breakthroughs in mental health care, specifically surrounding TBIs and other brain injuries.
“I am proud to endorse Adam Hollier for Congress,” Patrick Kennedy said. “Adam has answered that call to public service put forth by my Uncle, President Kennedy: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.’ Adam has answered that call over and over throughout his life as a soldier who has served his country, as a local elected official and as a community leader on behalf of those people with mental illness who are among the most marginalized in our community. Adam is a fierce advocate for better mental health policy that will empower countless Metro-Detroiters. We need more leaders in Washington who understand that the Invisible Wounds of War (PTSD, TBI) are real and need to be treated with the same urgency as all other wounds of war. Adam’s work on the state level to advance mental health parity, in addition to his service on the board of New Center Community Services in Detroit, proves he is a true leader in this space. Public service has always been a hallmark of my family. I am grateful that Adam has also chosen a path of service that will benefit so many.”
“It is an honor to have Patrick J. Kennedy’s support,” Senator Adam Hollier said. “Mental health issues, for our veterans and all citizens, are present now more than ever, and it is critical the United States has leaders in Washington who understand the sensitivities of these issues, and will fight for those who often do not have a voice to do so themselves. Patrick J. Kennedy has been doing this work for the long haul, and I am eager to continue to work with him on these issues to build a better future for all Americans.”
During the course of the campaign, Hollier and Kennedy will release a Mental Health agenda that serves the people of the 13th District and the nation.
Kennedy is the latest individual to endorse Hollier for Congress, joining Congressman Seth Moulton, organizations like VoteVets, and a host of other national, statewide and local voices.
