Public Safety

WHY WE ARE DOING IT
For Detroit to become a Destination City again, our residents need to feel safe, not just downtown, but in our own neighborhoods. I believe we can provide protection without over policing. Together we can build a public safety system that prioritizes prevention by being proactive instead of reactive, creates trust through collaboration between the police & community, and ensures justice for all.
WHAT WE WILL DO
We will ensure that Detroiters feel safe and feel involved in their own safety by:
Addressing Root Causes of Crime, expanding access to mental health care & trauma recovery services, and continuing expansion & investment in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) Programs
Establishing Community Safe Havens in neighborhoods to provide immediate assistance, resources and neighborhood support whenever needed
Making investments in Youth Programming using the Occupy the Corner model to provide resources, mentoring, and services to maximize talent and potential, and divert youth from crime
FIRST 100 DAYS:
ESTABLISH AN OFFICE OF GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION
