Neighborhood Restoration

WHY WE ARE DOING IT
Neighborhoods contain the essence of what makes Detroit special and unique. While downtown has seen noticeable development, our neighborhoods have voiced a deep concern about feeling left out. Many of Detroit’s residents, legacy businesses, and cultural landmarks are in neighborhoods rich with history and pride. Development has to occur in neighborhoods, and resources must be made available to residents where they live, work, play and pray. Detroit cannot continue to be a tale of two cities.
WHAT WE WILL DO
We will ensure that the City’s economic development is centered by our neighborhood institutions, and that neighborhoods thrive with safe, walkable streets. Detroiters deserve helpful resources where you live, work, play, and pray by:
Reactivating Commercial Corridors with amenities, food, entertainment and thus, business opportunities within the neighborhoods and unique to every District
Prioritizing Investments in Neighborhood Infrastructure, from streets, sidewalks and alley-ways to energy efficiency and home repair
Creating Neighborhood Opportunity and Empowerment Hubs that bring City Departments, essential programs, and community partner resources directly to residents
FIRST 100 DAYS:
LAUNCH THE COMMUNITY ANCHOR PLAN & RE-ESTABLISH THE FAITH-BASED DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
LAUNCH THE HOME REPAIR TASK FORCE TO SOURCE FUNDING AND PARTNERSHIPS TO SUPPORT DETROIT'S LONG-TIME HOMEOWNERS
OPEN NEIGHBORHOOD OPPORTUNITY AND EMPOWERMENT HUBS IN KEY LOCATIONS THAT LACK EASY ACCESS TO CITY PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES
WHY IT'S IMPORTANT
Detroit cannot continue to be a tale of two cities. Neighborhoods contain the essence of what makes Detroit special and unique. Together, we will use legacy neighborhood institutions to spur neighborhood development, celebrate and amplify our Detroit history within the neighborhoods, and improve economic outcomes and quality of life through our “Community Anchor Plan”. Re-launching and expanding the historic Faith-based Development Initiative (FBDI) will allow participating churches to help build out and upgrade their immediate surrounding communities.
